Daniëlle van Ark
Danielle van Ark graduated in 2005 from the Royal Academy
of Arts in The Hague. Since then she has been living and working in
New York and the Netherlands. Her work reflects a fascination
with status, power, transitoriness and (family) history. Her work
is a personal quest to discover the essence of the unnatural
relationship she has with the subject.
Van Ark has exhibited at the Museum of the City of New York
(U.S.), Deagu Photobiennial (Korea), Kunstraum Niederösterich
(Austria) and the Helmut Newton Gallery (Germany). Her series 'For
Art's Sake' was exhibited at 3H at Foam.
Mounted Life
'The Mounted Life', which was featured in Foam Magazine and is
available at Foam Editions, is a series on taxidermy in
Natural History Museums. Van Ark, visited dozens of depots of such
museums throughout Europe and the United States. In these depots
she found animals in surroundings that couldn't be further from
their former natural habitats. These contrasts create scenes that
are confronting, funny, uncomfortable and touching.
